FBI Background Check and Diploma for China

Are you planning to work in China?

From our experience, the China Embassy will request for you to certify and legalize your FBI background check and your University diploma (highest degree). In order to certify and legalize these two documents, you must mail them to our office for processing. We will discuss each document below and provide you step by step instructions.

FBI Background Check:
The first step in obtaining your FBI background check is to contact an approved FBI Channeler. By working with an FBI Channeler, you can shorten the amount of time it takes in order to receive your background check. Another benefit of working with a FBI Channeler is that you can obtain a digital copy in addition to a hard-copy that will be mailed to your location. A digital copy can help speed up the process of certifying and legalizing your documents for China. You can email us the digital FBI background check for processing through the US Department of State and the Chinese Embassy in Washington DC.

University Diploma:
In order to process your diploma, it must be signed and notarized by the University’s Registrar. Every University has procedures in place on how to notarize a diploma. Some University’s will request for you to mail in the original while another will ask for you to order a new one. In order to find our the procedures and step you must take, you will need to contact the University. Once you receive your signed and notarized University Diploma, the next step is to mail it to our office for processing.

Depending on the US State your diploma originates from (Example: Stanford University – California), we may be able to process these two documents together. But, in certain situations, we may have to process them separately. We recommend that you contact our office so we can email you the instructions and order forms. Our toll free number is 1-888-810-4054 ext.1

Apostille Transcripts

Do you need to apostille your transcripts?

If you attended a High School, College, University, or a Trade School in the United States and plan to work, continue your education, or obtain a long term Visa in another country, the requesting country will ask that your transcripts be authenticated by the School’s Registrar prior to receiving an apostille from the Secretary of State.

A transcript must be signed and notarized by the School’s Registrar. In order to determine if your transcript has been notarized, you can look for the original signature of the Registrar and the seal and signature of the notary public on the transcript. Every school has policies and procedures on how a transcript is notarized. I recommend that you contact the school and find out their procedure and if they have a notary on staff.  You can also request a traveling notary to meet with the Registrar.

BEWARE OF APOSTILLE SERVICE COMPANIES WHO WILL RE-NOTARIZE YOUR TRANSCRIPT IN ANOTHER STATE OR WITHOUT THE SCHOOL REGISTRAR’S SIGNATURE. DON’T RISK YOUR JOB, VISA, OR EDUCATION.

In some situations, the school will draft a letter on school letterhead certifying that the attached copy of the transcript is authentic.  This letter is then notarized and apostilled from the State office. Also, the country requesting your transcript will provide you instructions on what is required. For example, some countries will request your transcripts, diploma and a letter from the University attesting to your documents.

Once your transcript has been signed and notarized, we recommend that you contact us so we can email you the instructions and order forms.  Also, some countries have strict requirements on how a transcript should be authenticated.  These countries include: Kuwait, Qatar, Lebanon, China, and Saudi Arabia.  Documents destined for these countries require multiple steps and additional supporting documentation (Example: Driver License, Passport, Authorization Letter, etc..).

The processing time and cost depends on the State the transcript has been notarized in and the country requesting the documents. For example, a degree notarized in California and for Spain is going to cost less than a degree notarized in New York and for Qatar.  Our staff can provide you the cost and estimated processing time.

Apostille No Record of Marriage – Single Status

Do you need an apostille on a No Record of Marriage (Single Status Affidavit)?

Are you planning on getting married in another country and need a document that states you are currently single (No record of marriage – single status affidavit)?

There are several ways in which you can obtain this document.  The first step is to contact your local County Clerk.  The local County Clerk should be able to provide you a document that states that you are currently not married.  Some Counties will refer to this type of document as a “A Single Status Affidavit” or “Certificate of No Public Record”.   We have provided a list of names below as a reference.  If the County Clerk does not issue this type of document (some don’t), contact the second closest County Clerk.

Note: in the DC area, you can contact the Secretary of DC to issue you a Single Status Affidavit.

Another option would be to write out an affidavit (see example below) and have it notarized.  We recommend that you double check with the Country requesting this document if a notarized affidavit will be sufficient.  Basically, a notarized affidavit is a sworn statement that you are not married.  If you are outside of the USA, the closest U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate can also assist you with the sworn affidavit.

Some countries may also refer to this document as (basically means the same thing):
Single Status Affidavit
No Record of Marriage
Certificate of Freedom to Marry
Certificate of No Impediment for Marriage
Certificate of No Record – Marriage
Affidavit of Single Status
Affidavit of Marriageability
Certificate of No Public Record
Marriageability Affidavit

Here is an example of a single status affidavit:

Depending on how you obtain your single status (County Clerk, Court, State, US Embassy or US Consulate), we recommend that you contact us so we can provide you step-by-step instructions.  For example, if you obtained your single status affidavit from the County Clerk in Los Angeles, California, you will need to mail in this document to our Los Angeles California apostille office.  Another example, if you obtain your single status from a U.S. Embassy in China, you will need to mail in this document to our Washington, D.C. apostille office for processing.

No Record of Marriage
